Economics and Trade Branch Internship Programme
The objective of the UNEP-ETB Internship Programme is to provide current undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students with important practical experience that will complement their field of study or interests, and at the same time benefit UNEP-ETB.
The Internship Programme aims to provide students with a better understanding of major global environmental problems confronting the world and to expose students to UNEP and its policies and programmes.
Assignments may vary but will primarily have a country-specific, sectoral or thematic focus. Most interns work on a project or several projects. Internship commitments may vary in length according to the availability and academic requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of UNEP-ETB. UNEP-ETB expects the intern to commit a minimum of two months and a maximum of six months to the internship.
Due to the large number of applicants and the limited number of places available per year, applicants are strongly advised to note the eligibility criteria for obtaining an internship with UNEP-ETB. All of the requirements must be met for the internship application to be processed.
Payment, Liability, Insurance, Visas and Clearance
The Internship Programme operates on a non-remunerative basis. All costs connected with internships must, therefore, be borne by the interns or their sponsoring institutions or governments. This includes costs relating to travel, living and accommodation.
UNEP accepts no responsibility or liability for costs arising from damages, travel, accident and/or illness incurred during an internship.
Obtaining visas is also the sole responsibility of the intern.
Applications including a letter of endorsement from your university and UNEP-ETB Internship Programme Application Form should be submitted by email to
Applicants may receive a standard reply confirming receipt of the internship application. Due to the volume of applications we receive, you will be contacted personally only if UNEP-ETB wishes to actively pursue your application.
If selected by UNEP-ETB for an internship, applicants will be asked to complete and send a signed Internship Agreement for the United Nations prior to travel.
